Clarivein® Q & A
What is ClariVein?
Sclerotherapy is the preferred treatment for small varicose veins and spider veins. This simple and effective technique involves injecting a safe chemical into small varicose veins, and the chemical causes the blood vessel to permanently close and disappear.
While procedures like Endovenous Ablation are ideal for treating deeper veins, Sclerotherapy is the best way to deal with twisty or tiny veins.
Why would I need Sclerotherapy?
How does sclerotherapy work?
During a Sclerotherapy procedure, Dr. Rosen uses a very small needle to inject sodium tetradecyl sulfate (STS), into the varicose vein. STS is a safe chemical that causes the vein to close and disappear over time.
What are the risks of Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a generally safe procedure. However, you may experience bruising, redness, or minor skin irritation at the injection site. These minor side effects usually go away within a few days or weeks.
Serious side effects are rare but may include inflammation, blood clots, air bubbles in the veins, and allergic reactions to the chemical solution.
What should I expect from Sclerotherapy treatment?
First, Dr. Rosen reviews your symptoms and medical history and performs a physical exam to make sure you’re a good candidate for sclerotherapy. He spends as much time as needed to explain the procedure so you can confidently make an informed decision about your body.
As with all treatments at Rosen Vein Care, Dr. Rosen performs sclerotherapy himself. He talks you through every step of the process to help you understand what’s going on.
Sclerotherapy sessions usually take about 30 minutes. The number of injections and sessions you need depends on the amount of veins that require treatment.
After sclerotherapy treatment, you wear special compression stockings until the next session. You should notice the effects of sclerotherapy over the course of a few months as the veins begin to close.
