If you have some spider veins that you’d like to see disappear, Dr. Rosen at Rosen Vein Care can help restore your appearance along with your confidence.
We use a process called sclerotherapy to close off spider veins and let your body naturally fade them away over time. Sclerotherapy involves tiny injections to deliver Sodium Tetradecyl Sulfate (STS) to the problematic veins. STS is a safe, cleansing chemical that has been in use since the 1940’s. The injections are easily tolerated and no anesthetics are even needed.
There are three different types of sclerotherapy we may use for your spider vein treatment:
- Liquid sclerotherapy. STS is injected into the spider vein using a tiny needle.
- Foam sclerotherapy. The STS is converted into a foam substance that is able to treat larger spider veins without having to increase the concentration of the STS.
- Ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy. This precision-guided technique treats spider veins that are too deep to access from the surface.
All of our spider vein treatments are performed by Dr. Rosen, who is certified by the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine. The process takes only around 30 minutes to complete and the number of sessions may vary depending on the number of veins you wish to treat. Compression stockings are worn over the injected extremities between treatments.
What are Spider Veins?
Spider veins, or Telangiectasia, is a mild form of vein disease. These small, dilated blood vessels are located near the skin’s surface and form a web-like shape. Genetics, hormonal influences, pregnancy, and injury can all contribute to the development of spider veins.
Spider veins are typically neither painful nor dangerous to your health. Most people who wish to undergo treatment for their spider veins do so for cosmetic reasons. There are, however, instances where spider veins may be correlated to symptoms such as restless or heavy legs, fatigue, swelling, and cramps. This is often the result of reflux, or blood that is flowing in the wrong direction that allows pressure to build and veins to dilate and become spider-like.
